Happy Holidays

We all wish you a happy safe holiday and look forward to hearing about all your adventures with family and friends.

Ms Copping's laptop has crashed and is away being repaired so it is a bit trickier to blog than usual.

We have had  a great learning term and are looking forward to inquiring into the Science in our backyard next term.

Take care and see you real soon - hopefully we are 'connected' with the world around the middle of the second week - so send in your photos and stories to share on our blog.

Love from Ruma Ruru and their number one fan, Ms Copping.

Proud Tears for Ashleigh

On Tuesday night a group of Cambridge students were recognised for their perseverance and achievement in literacy from Altrusa.

These students were nominated within school - at Goodwood we had two students selected and one of them was a RURU!

Well done Ashleigh - you gave your parents and teacher proud tears! You work so hard and can be very proud of your achievements in reading.

Along with her certificate Ashleigh received a book voucher from Wright's Bookshop.

Poetry from Lily

Here is a poem that Lily wrote at home... she has used some ideas from another poem and added HEAPS of her own. She has painted a great picture in our minds and thought carefully about the words so that she keeps the rhythm and flow of the poem.

Lily - you are an amazing poet!

Making Magic with Mates.

In Ruma Ruru the moments outside the classroom help make the moments inside our classroom. We like to know about each other so we can help each other learn.

Here is a magical moment yesterday at Ben's party.

P.S Check out his cake - go RURU!

Happy Birthday Ben - you can be very proud of all your achievements in your first year at school!

Caring for Others...

As a country school we have our Ag Day coming up early next term.

Here is Lucy with her lamb - Cuddles.

Lucy and her Mum had this to say when they emailed through the photo...

Here's a pic with Lucy and her lamb "Cuddles" when we first got her.  Cuddles has grown heaps since then as she has now worked out how to drink a bottle and Lucy is being a great mum.

If anyone in Ruma Ruru has something they would like to share about their exploring of life outside of school - simply email Ms Copping.

Emergency Poncho

Sometimes 'freebies' come your way in life... Ms Copping had some CASE emergency ponchos and she gave us a couple each.

She thought that we might keep them in the car in case we needed them or wear them at the rugby or an outdoor family concert...

BUT.....

she was wrong!

Ashleigh prepared for unexpected rain!

Hannah looking good in CASE of unexpected rain!

Ruben the Road Safety Bear

Ruben visited all the juniors at school today to share his road safety message around cars and buses.

Lachlan and a few other juniors helped Ruben show us safety tips and ways to move on and around roads safely.

Investigating Guide Dogs...

After morning tea a lady brought in a guide dog that she is training. She came to visit some senior students who are inquiring about guide dogs.

However....

as two reading groups had recently read a non-fiction book about Guide Dogs they went along to meet her and Wad (the dog). They read the book to our visitors and she took it away to show other people.

Lily, Melissa, Hannah and Max came back to Ruru and told us all about the visit.

Lily spoke first and told us about the dog and what he did (he helps people who are blind get around safely) and his name. She said he was very well behaved and is learning to be a guide dog and he sat when he was asked to. Lily also told us that they read the book and the lady liked it.

Hannah told us he was a black lab.

Melissa told us that when Wade went into Mr Wallace's class he barked loudly.

Max spoke last and he said the girls had told us all about it, except that it was cool fun and that Wade was wearing a harness.

$497.70

that is the grand total raised for SPCA through our participation in Cupcake Day.

Thank you... thank you... thank you.... Your support helps bring meaning to our inquiry and also helps out animals that need recusing or helping in the Waikato area.

In Ruma Ruru we are willing to help out and share our ideas for helping animal shelters in our area other than giving money so please ask us about this.

Again, thank you... thank you - we know we are lucky to have your love and support in our learning and we appreciate it.

A few rescued photos...

These are a few snaps from Cupcake Day - you can see how busy and popular it was. There certainly was a cupcake (or two) for everyone!

Final monies raised will be confirmed tomorrow.

Having a growth spurt??

In Term One in March we measured ourselves and made a growth chart.

Today we measured ourselves again! We have been having a growth spurt.

Melissa has had the biggest growth spurt and has grown 6 cms.

Luke is still the tallest  - he is 127cms tall.

Baxter, Noah, Ben, Hannah, Saoirse and Luke all grew 4cms.

Lachlan, Lucy and Ashleigh have grown 3 cms.

Summer has grown 2 cms.

Some people were away and we didn't measure them in March and some people are away today...

Wow - not only are we growing hairy brains in our room we are also growing healthy strong bodies!

If I were the boss of Goodwood School...

If I was the boss of Goodwood School... I would let all
my friends have ice-cream and get a bouncy castle for the
playground and everyone could play on it in our whole
class. I would tell everyone to do what I say then the school
will look cool. Our whole class could have the iPads for a whole
week. I would make it be sunny all the time. I would make
all the teachers sit on the deck and Ruma Ruru would have
the staffroom for ourselves.

By Melissa

I am the boss of Goodwood School! I would bring a bouncy castle
to Goodwood School. If I was the boss of Goodwood School
I would bring a pool to Goodwood School fro us to swim in. I would
bring iPads for Ruma Ruru. I would bring everyone loads of lollies.
I would bring a water slide for all in Ruma Ruru.

If I was the boss of Goodwood School... I would get an ice-cream.
I would get the teachers to sit on the deck and the Ruru's would be
in the staffroom drinking milo. The Ruru's could go to
Lollipops Playland. It would be fun. I would only let Ruma Ruru
go on the bouncy castle - not the others. I would let everyone
go to Candyland and Ruru's could have cake for lunch!

By Lily.

Congratulations Tyler and Annelise

Congratulations Tyler and Annelise - you certainly have earned your certificates from Friday's assembly.

We are all so proud of you and the way you take charge of your learning.

Harold and Life Ed

Harold and Nicky are visiting us for the next two weeks. Harold is going to be talking to us about friendships. We will visit him in his BIG truck (that arrives on Tuesday afternoon).

We can learn more about Harold and what he does on this website...

In other news...

we have so much to show you - last week we wrote about 'If we were the Boss of Goodwood School...' with some great ideas on a few changes we would make! We are going to publish them during reading time early this week and then we will show you!
