More Body SMARTs on a Saturday

I use my body SMART of using my body to move around the rugby field. Rugby is a sport that people play anywhere. I like playing rugby because you get to use lots of your energy and get rips. I play for Goodwood Black. I like getting tries and I side step around the other team.

Ashleigh's Beautiful Monarch Butterfly

I got the swan plants from Mitre 10. I put them on a table in the sun. The caterpillars ate and ate the leaves. They hanged down from a leaf and curled up into a chrysalis. The chrysalis was green at first but then it went clear and I could see the orange and black butterfly inside. It took a while. One came out yesterday and one came out the day before. By Ashleigh.

But wait there is more...
Asheligh's first butterfly emerged from the chrysalis while Ashleigh was at school... SO... Ashleigh's Mum videoed it and loaded it onto you tube for us to see.

Click HERE to see that video.

We loved watching this video, it is so amazing to see and share our learning inside and outside the classroom!

Wacky Hair Day - Westpac Air Ambulance

Today is Wacky Hair Day. The student council organised Wacky Hair Day to raise awareness and funds to support Westpac Air Ambulance.

We looked Wacky!

After morning tea, the Westpac Air Ambulance landed on the field at school. In the chopper was Jerome Kaino! Jerome told us over 5000 people used the air ambulance service last year in New Zealand. He thinks the air ambulance is a great thing to support because it rescues us where ever we are.

The Juniors had lots of interesting questions for Jerome... Do you know Richie McCaw? How many tries have you got? What number is your jersey?

Dan, the pilot, also talked to us about the air ambulance and what he does. They are there to help us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We had some questions for Dan too... How old is the helicopter? Can it fly at night?

Hannah, our class councillor, reported that our school raised $690 to support the Air Ambulance.

We would like to say to you - thank you!

Mucking In Day

On Wednesday it was Mucking In Day. My Mum helped do Mucking In. I did sweeping up leaves and so did Ms Copping. Mucking In Day is all about cleaning up the whole world. The school is part of the world so we cleaned up the school.  We are guardians of the world. It was fun. Nga Melissa.

On Wednesday it was Mucking In Day. We cleaned the school up and we had to put the leaves in the forest too. We had to pull the dirt blanket too. It was too hard and I made paper bricks. Nga Saoirse.

On Wednesday it was Mucking In Day. It was cool. It was fun pulling weed mat out of the garden. It was hard to pull the weed mat out. There was my tractor. The tractor took the rubbish away. We cleaned out the garden. i was sweaty. It was fun. It was hard. Nga Luke.

Movin' on a Saturday

Here are two more tamariki from Ruru out exploring and moving on a Saturday morning in our community. This time it is at Soccer. What a great morning we all had learning to dribble the ball (not with our mouths type dribbling), to kick and chase and to pass to our team mates. Well done Lachlan - you set up a wonderful goal for your team! Did you hear the adults cheering?

Build Yourself Wild

This is so much fun! We have wicked plans and evil ideas on how to use this and will share it with you soon. In the meantime click on the link below and enjoy!

Build Yourself Wild

Wharepukapuka

We like visiting the library. In the library we look at books! We look at non-fiction and fiction books. Fiction books are not real. We shelve them in alphabetical order using the first letter of the authors last name (surname or family name). Non - fiction books are REAL. They have numbers on the spine and are shelved by the Dewey Decimal System. We love having quiet time with a pukapuka, we like sharing books with our friends and we read books to each other.
I like scary books - Emma. I like reading books about tractors - Baxter. I like books about animals - they are non - fiction - Saoirse. I like books about fairies - Ashleigh. I like reading books in the library - Annelise. I like reading monster truck books and car books. They are non-fiction books - Jonte. I like stories about Santa - Jessica. I like pony books - Hannah. I like reading all sorts of books in the library - Max.

Using our Body SMARTs...

On Saturday mornings you can find many of us out and about in the Cambridge area using our Body SMART and playing sport! Ms Copping came along to check out the action... She saw lots of us down on the paddock playing Rippa Rugby. She shouted out to encourage us and 'Yippeed' when our teams scored tries. We are learning to pass, side step, work as a team to get 'rips' and run for the try line!
Here are a few of us who are in the same team. Ms Copping thinks we are a bunch of cuties (even with mud on our knees and faces!) Do you know what other winter sports we play?

Paper Bricks

We have started our paper bricks. We got some paper out of the big recycling bins and ripped it into small pieces. We put the pieces into the big blue bin (spot our alliteration??) with some water and dish washing liquid. We are now leaving it to soak and break down. Then... we will show you our paper brick contraption. We wonder how much paper it will take to make one brick? How long will it take to dry? Do they really burn for 1 - 2 hours? We are excited to see what happens next!
P.S Spot the elipse?

A visit from Nibbles

Nibbles is Lucy's rabbit and he came to visit on Monday morning. He had a snuggle with everyone. Lucy told us about where Nibbles lives, what he eats and how he spends his days. Nibbles also had a snuggle with Ruru.

Mathemagicians in Ruru...

In Ruma Ruru we are all mathemagicians who love learning new maths ideas. We have been building our knowledge in... ways to make 10, using ways to make 10 in the tens and hundreds, learning doubles to 10 and halves of (which are opposites to doubles!). We are also learning to skip count in 2, 5 and 10... just ask us. See if you can trick us by asking us to count in 10's from 7 or 8 or 6?
We also enjoy using our Music SMART to learn to count in different ways. The Big Numbers Song Counting in 2's Counting in 10's

Paper Bricks?!?

Earlier in the week Ms Copping and some of the Enviro Warriors began making paper bricks. They needed to rip up paper into small pieces and soak it in water with some dish washing liquid. They left this to soak for a few days... which meant... This afternoon, we used the paper brick contraption and made some bricks. They are drying. Next week we will make our own and show you all! Do you know anything about paper bricks? We will give you a clue... you don't use them build a house. You can see our bricks drying in the back of the room.

More learning...

A reading group worked together to come up with all these words that use these 'ake' words.
